Tiruchengodu is in Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu. KonguNadu includes in it 24 villages, out of which Pundhurai, located in Erode district is one of the important pilgrimage centre. West of Cauvery is Melakarai Pundhurai and East of Cauvery is Kilakarai Pundhurai. Kilakarai Pundhurai is famously known as Thiruchengodu. The word "Thiruchengodu" means beautiful, steeped hill in Tamil Language.
Tiruchengode (also known as "Thirukodi mada chengundroor " in vedic times) has many references in puranas, like Thevaram and Silapathikaram. In Silapathikaram, Ilango adigal referred Tiruchengode as "Chengodu " and that "it has numerous holy ponds and enjoys popularity and prosperity".
This temple has been praised by the Nayanmar Thirugnanasambandhar in his devotional hyman Devaram. Great poets and saints like Arunagirinathar, Ilango adigal, Kaviraja pandithar amongst others have enlogised this holy place in their divine poems. The idols of Birungi Munivar and Arunagirinathar are found inside the temple. District

Now, this city is in Namakkal district and located 20 kms from Erode. In ancient days, Tiruchengodu is known as "Thirukodimaadachenkunrur".
This ancient hill temple according to the inscriptions on the walls must have been built about 2000 years ago. Many renovation works and additions were done by the kings and chieftains ruled over Tamilnadu in the past.

Arulmigu Arthanareeswarar Temple :-
The three moorthies Arthanareeswarar, Chengoduvelan and Athikesava Perumal have seperate shrines for each in this temple. But even then popularly known as Arthanareeswarar temple. Arulmighu Kailashanathar Temple :-
Across the streets of Thiruchengodu city, located is the Kailashanathar Temple with a large tower as a crown on it. This temple is otherwise known as Nilathambiran Temple. It was said that this temple was built by a king called VikramaThevan, so this temple is also called as Vikrama Pandeeswarar temple. This temple's area is 240 square feet and its tower is 76 feet in height. Infront of this temple is a 45 feet single stone vilakuthuun.
Tiruchengode is famous for handloom/powerloom textiles. It is 370 kms , away from Chennai. It is also enjoys good bus connection to most of town and cities in Tamilnadu.
Tiruchengode is located in Namakkal district (35 kms from Namakkal city-eastern side) and in the vicinity of Salem (around 40 kms-northern side) and Erode (20 kms-western side) and Karur (35 kms-southern side).
The town is Well connected with Salem, Namakkal, Erode and Karur with frequent bus services.
The nearest railway stations are Erode and Salem.
Economically affordable private accommodation is available in the town.
There is a road which connects the town and hill top temple. A 2.5 kms of road climbs up the hill and ends in the parking lot in the hill top. The road work started in 1984 with a budget of Rs. 60 lakhs, by the then Tamil Nadu Government. The road was opened to public on 15th May, 1988. The Devasdanam started bus service to the hill top on 16th Sep, 1988 . The road offers several breathtaking views of the town and surrounding areas of the hill.
